East Coast families still cut off by flooding

At least six East Coast families remain cut off by flooding and slips from heavy rain last week.

Civil Defence says three homes in Ruatoria have only rough four-wheel-drive road access, and access won't improve for some time.

Another three families in Anaura Bay, north of Gisborne, have been isolated by a landslide and it will be at least three days before a temporary road over the slip is usable.

Civil Defence says the families have plenty of food.

Controller Jon Davies says locals are used to such events as they happen several times a year.
