Taitokerau MP Hone Harawira says the Maori Party is considering a policy that would see foreign buyers limited to leasing land, instead of being able to buy it outright.
Mr Harawira says he was asked to draft a bill on foreign ownership for submission to the ballot for members' bills.
He told Waatea News it's an issue which will strike a chord in his electorate, where, he said, "a lot of mining interests" are showing interest onshore and offshore.
Mr Harawira said laws limiting foreign ownership of key assets are not unusual internationally.
