Yealands Estate has received funding from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority to build a boiler that will turn vine prunings into a source of energy.

Some 10% of vine prunings will burnt in the biomass boiler and used to heat water and glycol.

The boiler, which is being made in the United States, will save Yealands 22 tonnes of LPG per year.

Yealands is the largest privately owned vineyard in New Zealand.
