Maori Party co-leader Tariana Turia has endorsed the Government's plan to restrict union access to work sites.
But she says the party isn't convinced that the 90-day trial period for new workers should be extended to large firms, as is also planned.
The changes are part of the industrial law reform package outlined to the National Party conference over the weekend by Prime Minister John Key.
Mrs Turia told Waatea News she can see the merit of unions seeking approval from management before they get on-site access to members.
There's no evidence, however, she says, that the 90-day probation period has led to employers taking on more young Maori.
