New Zealand market slips 22 points

The New Zealand sharemarket slipped on Thursday, with the NZX50 index closing down 22 points, or 0.7%, to 2981 on turnover of $48 million.

Fletcher Building was down 6 cents to $7.64, Telecom was down 1c to $1.95 and Contact Energy was down 4c to $5.66.

The dollar was buying 71.25 US cents, 81.30 Australian cents, 46.93 pence, 61.60 yen and 0.5580 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was 67.20.

Across the Tasman, the Australian 200 index was down 27 points, or 0.6%, to 4385.
