The Unite Union is promising direct action against National's proposed new labour laws, including occupations and strikes.

Trade unions held a strategy meeting at the University of Auckland on Wednesday night, with a proposed extension to the 90 day probation period for new employees as their main focus.

Unite general secretary Matt McCarten urged the audience to 'name and shame' of poor employers.

He said workers and unions are now at war with the Government.

Also pledging their support were delegates from the Engineering, Printing & Manufacturing Union and the National Distribution Union.
