John Key has launched a business scholarship scheme to help fund up to 25 people a year to study at internationally-recognised business schools.

Under the $1 million pilot scheme, people will be able to apply for up to $110,000 to cover half of the costs of their course and expenses.

Mr Key says the scheme will help provide senior managers and executives access to top overseas business programmes.

He says the aim is build the capacity of New Zealand businesses and help to make New Zealand more internationally competitive.

Funding for future years' scholarships will be dependent on the outcome of this year's pilot.
