Services for NZ soldier killed in Afghanistan

Funeral details have been released for the New Zealand soldier killed in an ambush in Afghanistan.

Lieutenant Timothy O'Donnell, 28, a member of the Provincial Reconstruction Team, died after his vehicle hit a roadside bomb before coming under fire from insurgents in Bamyan province last Tuesday.

Two other soldiers were injured in the attack and returned to New Zealand on Saturday. An Afghan interpreter suffered minor injuries.

Lieutenant O'Donnell's funeral will be held at Linton Military Camp in Palmerston North starting at 1pm on Wednesday.

A service will be held at Christchurch's Burnham Military Camp at 1pm for members of Lieutenant O'Donnell's unit who cannot attend the funeral.

Members of the public are invited to attend a service of remembrance at St Paul's Cathedral in Wellington at 1pm.
