Earthquake in Ecuador

A magnitude 6.9 earthquake has occurred in Ecuador.

The quake struck at 1154 GMT on Thursday and was centered about 225km southeast of the capital, Quito, at a depth of 185km.

The US Geological Service initially reported the quake as 6.7 magnitude, then revised the strength to 7.2, before putting the figure at 6.9.

No serious damage is reported and no tsunami warning was issued.
