Police in Wellington confirm an investigation has begun into the Students Association at Whitireia Polytechnic at Porirua.
The investigation is into suspected misappropriation of funds, but police are giving no details.
A further statement is expected within a fortnight.
The inquiry follows complaints about expenditure at the association, which is funded by compulsory fees from students.
Neither the association's acting president nor polytech management could be reached for comment.
