Te Putea Whakatupu Trust, which was established to promote Maori education training and research, has launched a new scholarship.

The Rona scholarship is designed to lift the level of Maori participation in middle and senior science and management roles in the fisheries and aquaculture industries.

Trust chair Richard Jefferies says up to ten scholarships, each worth $10,000, will be offered to students completing a degree in fisheries, aquaculture or marine sciences.

He says the trust is keen to find candidates whose studies are likely to contribute to the commercial success of firms, but more particularly ones owned by Maori.
