Te Rarawa want nuts and bolts of Treaty settlement

Members of Te Rarawa in the Far North want to know how a Treaty settlement package will help them with housing, health, and education.

The iwi has been holding hui throughout the motu, where people have been asking where and how they will benefit.

Settlement is coming closer with results of a tribal vote to ratify a proposed deal with the Crown due later this week.

Te Rarawa chair Haami Piripi says people have been asking how the iwi will deliver on the ground, and how it can make a difference for marae communities.

He says questions included how many houses will be built, and how will access to health services be improved over the next five years.

Almost $34 million and six schools are part of the Crown's commercial and financial redress.
