A north Taranaki iwi's general manager says the future for communicating with iwi members, especially the younger generation, is with social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
Ngati Mutunga uses both to advertise panui (notices) and received an overwhelming response for two wahi tapu tours in January and a great deal of interest in it holding more.
General manager Hemi Sundgren says Facebook and Twitter are the way of the future, because most people are signed up and can access their accounts just about anywhere around the world.
He says social media should form a key part of any iwi's communication plans.
Mr Sundgren says both Facebook and Twitter are readily accessible and using them demonstrates how technologically savvy the iwi is with rangatahi.
