Mana Party leader and MP Hone Harawira says he was honoured, humbled, privileged and pleased to be able to attend the funeral of Tonga's King George Tupou V.
Mr Harawira travelled with a number of high profile Maori figures to the capital Nuku'alofa to join mourners on Tuesday.
Reflecting on the service, he says the experience was a contrast to a tangi.
Mr Harawira says he was impressed by the courage of an independent people - people who are princes to themselves.
