Last minute glitches in te rarawa settlement

7:12 pm on 30 March 2012

Last minute objections are making work for Te Rarawa negotiators - as they move towards settling Treaty grievances.

The iwi's runanga was successful in gaining the mandate to settle the claim, which includes co-governance of 90 Mile Beach and the return of Landcorp farms.

But a couple of Te Rarawa claimants are unhappy with the deal, and several north Hokianga hapu have complained to the Waitangi Tribunal that it could prejudice their claims under Ngapuhi.

Chief negotiator Haami Piripi says the negotiators are working patiently through the issues with those people and still hope to sign the settlement deed in June.
