Tainui owes much to the former head of its Waikato-Tainui executive, Tukoroirangi Morgan, says the leader's successor, Tom Roa, who was appointed the job at the weekend.

Mr Morgan says he's leaving the office and is considering several job opportunities including in the Whanau Ora field and advising iwi which are yet to settle their treaty settlement.

Mr Roa says the new board thanks Mr Morgan for his vast contribution in developing the iwi, and that the debt the iwi owes to Mr Morgan can't be valued.

Mr Morgan's work with politicians and other iwi has been remarkable, and Mr Roa said he was sure Mr Morgan would help out again if the iwi needed him.

The new executive is able to build on the work done by Mr Morgan and his team on the previous executive.
