The Archdeacon of Tamaki Makaurau, Hone Kaa, has been laid to rest at his whanau cemetery in Rangitukia in Te Tai Rawhiti.
Dr Kaa died in hospital in Auckland last Thursday. He was 70.
Many mourners joined his whanau, hapu and iwi - the East Coast people of Ngati Porou - to pay their last respects.
Dr Kaa had been lying at Hinepare Marae since Sunday night and was buried at Okaroro urupa just before midday following a church service on Tuesday morning.
