Maori Troilus and Cressida fundraising for London

The cast of a Maori language version of Shakespeare's Troilus and Cressida have launched an appeal to raise funds to take their production to The Globe Theatre in London.

The play stars well-known actor Rawiri Paratene and the cast will perform it on the anniversary of Shakespeare's birthday on 23 April at the Globe to Globe Festival as part of London's Cultural Olympiad.

The New Zealand production is one of seven plays from Commonwealth countries that are taking part in the festival.

The Maori Troilus and Cressida has has already had sold-out performances in Auckland and Wellington and a special fundraising show is being held at the Auckland Town Hall on 15 April followed by another fundraiser featuring musicians Maisey Rika, Ria Hall, Tama Waipara and Ngatapa Black.
