Winners of a weekend regional Maori oratory competition are expected to do well at the national competition in Nelson later this year, says a speech coach, Ruapehu College teacher, Merrilyn George.

Waitara High School student, Aroha Pue-Broughton, was the overall winner of Nga Manu Korero - which was held at Ruapehu College in Ohakune on Sunday.

She'll be representing the Taranaki-Whanganui region at the national competition in Nelson in September.

Two students from Whanganui, Jono Brumley and Marunui Sturmey, along with New Plymouth Girls' High School Libby Wichman, will also be attending.

Ms George, says that standards were high at the regional competition, and she expects the Taranaki-Whanganui winners to do well in Nelson.

One of the topics on which they'll be presenting include whether face-to-face speaking is better than remote links using technology.
