Call for entries for Maori language awards

7:21 pm on 2 July 2012

The Maori Language Commission is calling for entries for this year's Maori language awards.

Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Maori says applications are welcomed from all sectors and organisations - whether Maori or non-Maori - to recognise the positive contributions they make, especially during Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori which runs from 23-29 July.

Commission chief executive Glenis Phillip-Barbara says with this year's theme Arohatia te Reo (cherish the language), organisations and schools are undertaking a number of initiatives to celebrate Maori language.

There are 15 categories for the awards which cover radio, television and the print media, government, community and private sector organisations, as well as schools and universities.

The closing date for applications is 10 August and the finalists will be announced in early October.
