Maori business leaders are keen to set up an office in China, says Ngati Kahungunu chairman, Ngahiwi Tomoana, convener of a business group in a recent trade delegation to China.

Maori have been offerd an office by the mayor of Jiangmen, where staff could support imports of New Zealand products through the city's port.

Mr Tomoana says Maori businesses could be trialling a range of meat, fruit and logs in the next couple of months.

He says Jiangmen prides itself on being the logistics hub of China and wants to be a part of New Zealand's rich asset base.

Mr Tomoana says Maori businesses are also considering setting up an office in the nearby city of Guangzhou.
