Maori, Taiwanese students join for show

10:16 pm on 6 July 2012

Maori and Taiwanese students will put on a combined cultural performance at the Auckland Museum on July 8.

About 50 Taiwanese students will play in a jieshou, a traditional Chinese orchestra, and perform a shuang wen, or traditional dance.

Glenfield College's kapa haka group will also perform, and will encourage the Taiwanese visitors to join in some of the items.

The school's Te Reo head teacher Kipa Rangiheuea, says the visit by the Taiwanese students, who are aged 10 to 15, is an opportunity for both groups to learn about each other's culture and form friendships.

The Taiwanese students who are in New Zealand for three weeks will also perform on a marae in Paeroa.
