Two high-ranking Maori officials have been appointed to senior roles in the public sector.

Judge Heemi Taumaunu has been made a Judge of the Court Martial.

Judge Taumaunu, of Ngati Porou and Ngai Tahu descent, also holds warrants for the general, jury and youth jurisdictions - and also sits in Rangatahi Courts regularly.

He is a resident judge of the Waitakere District Court, and previously worked in Gisborne as a barrister and solicitor and focussed on criminal, Family Court and Youth Court work.

Meanwhile, Enid Ratahi-Pryor has been appointed to the Housing New Zealand Corporation board for a three-year term.

She is the chief executive of Te Tohu O Te Ora O Ngati Awa, a Maori social and health service provider based in Whakatane.
