Health officials door-knock to push home insulation

7:09 am on 31 July 2012

Waikato District Health Board's Maori Health Unit says it plans to go door-knocking to find families that could benefit from free home insulation.

Te Puna Oranga is spreading the word that it can organise floor and ceiling insulation for 600 properties as part of a drive to cut the connection between sickness and cold homes.

Te Puna Oranga general manager Ditre Tamatea says his role is to improve the conditions of Maori.

He says members of his team are prepared to go out and ask people whether they need insulation, particularly in houses where young children live.

Mr Tamatea says the home insulation roll-out will be a team effort that will also involve Whanau Ora providers.
