The Waitangi Tribunal has agreed to a Government request to release a shortened version of a report about Maori water rights and the partial sales of four state-owned energy companies, before the end of the month.
Late last month, the tribunal asked the Government to delay the sale of shares until the tribunal released its full report at the end of September.
The Government responded by asking the tribunal to make its findings known earlier.
The tribunal says the Crown's request is inappropriate, but given the national importance of the issue it will release an abbreviated report on 24 August.
