8:24 pm on 11 September 2012

Eastern Bay of Plenty iwi Ngati Awa has appointed a new tribal chief executive.

Enid Ratahi-Pryor takes over the role at Te Runanga o Ngati Awa from Tiaki Hunia, the acting chief.

He was offered the permanent position, but turned it down to accept a position with the Maori Trustee in Welllington.

Te Runanga o Ngati Awa deputy chairperson Pouroto Ngaropo is pleased that Ms Ratahi-Pryor has accepted the position and expects that she will contribute greatly.

He says she has already spent 20 years contributing to Ngati Awa, and is not only passionate about her iwi, but brings to the role a masters degree in business management.

Mr Ngaropo says Ms Ratahi-Pryor begins her new job on Monday.
