MP backs Maori opposed to rubbish transfer

10:43 pm on 17 September 2012

Waiariki MP Te Ururoa Flavell is offering his support to Rotorua tangata whenua who are opposed to a rubbish transfer station being built.

An independent commissioner has granted the Transpacific Industries Group consent to build the station, on the corner of Te Ngae Road and Hamiora Place in Ngapuna.

It'll deal with up to 30,000 tonnes of rubbish a year.

Mr Flavell says he's already met with local Maori in Ngapuna, who are against a transfer station being built and are planning to go to the Environmental Court.

He says it's important to the residents to become unified about their concerns.
