No urgency for Ngai Tahu to shift back to CBD

Ngai Tahu iwi says it's in no hurry to relocate its headquarters back into the Christchurch central business district.

Following the earthquake in February last year, the tribe moved its base to the former airforce base at Wigram.

Ngai Tahu chairman Mark Solomon says the iwi has one eye on the King Edward Barracks site in the city, which it purchased in the 1990s.

He says they will eventually move back into central Christchurch, but aren't in any hurry to leave Wigram and will wait until rebuilding the city gets underway properly.
