The Tamaki Maori Village near Rotorua has picked up an award for best indigenous experience in the the tourism sectors on both sides of the Tasman.
It's won the 2012 Golden Backpack Award - announced in Sydney.
The awards are the only ones dedicated in the independent travel sector for companies which make backpacking around New Zealand and Australia an experience for travellers.
Voting was conducted on line with nearly 20,000 votes received.
Tamaki Tours director Doug Tamaki says the award recognises 21 years of hard work, dedication and commitment the company has put into the backpacker industry.
He says it's a tribute to the high-quality cultural encounters the company provides.
