Senior Waikato-Tainui leader will heed call of iwi

A senior Waikato-Tainui leader says he'll follow the Maori King's suggestion to step down - but only if that's what the people want.

Te Arataura (tribal executive) chair Tom Roa expects the future of the executive to be discussed at the tribe's annual general meeting on 8 December.

Last week, Kingi Tuheitia sent a letter calling for members of the tribe's parliament, Te Kauhanganui - and the executive - to step down and seek re-election.

Tom Roa welcomes the King's request.

He says if his marae, Te Kauhanganui or the executive want him to step down - then he will.
