School meeting house to remain on site

A decision has been made over the future of a small carved meeting house based at a former college in Murupara.

Ngati Manawa hapu has been in talks about relocation options for Tuwhare, and it has been announced it will stay at Rangitahi College in the meantime.

The college closed earlier this month to merge with a primary school and become a new area school due to open next year.

Former college principal Dawn Mitai-Pehi said the Ministry of Education has told her some college buildings will be used next year and possibly in 2014.

She said for that reason Tuwhare will remain at the Rangitahi site.

Mrs Mitai-Pehi said the ministry plans to call for submissions next year or in 2014 to ask the community where Tuwhare should be relocated once the new area school is fully operational and no longer requires the use of the buildings at the Rangitahi College site.
