Taranaki based Parininihi ki Waitotara Corporation (PKW) is expanding its operations.

PKW is the largest dairy farmer in the province, with 14 dairy farms, and is on track to produce 2.7 million kilograms of milk solids this season.

Chairperson Hinerangi Raumati says the corporation has spent $8 million this year buying a 220 hectare dairy farm in South Taranaki that was previously leased land.

She says the dairy investment is the most significant for PKW in five years and includes putting in a 60 bale rotary dairy shed on a Kevlar base.

Ms Raumati says PKW is now fully managing another three farms that previously had sharemilking arrangements in place.

The changes are part of a strategy to actively manage the corporation's land and buy back leases when they become available.

PKW owns about 20,000 hectares of land, most of which is leased.
