Tuhoe faces autonomy challenge - Iti

6:32 am on 28 February 2013

Tuhoe kaumatua Tame Iti says it's going to be a challenge for his tribe to create a new future - once a Treaty settlement has been signed with the Crown.

Iti was released on parole on Wednesday after serving time in prison for his role in military style camps in Te Urewera National Park, in 2007.

He said he's right behind the iwi leaders who are in dialogue with the Crown to resolve grievances and achieve mana motuhake, or tribal autonomy.
