Maori Women's Welfare League leader signals change

6:53 am on 20 March 2013

The Maori Women's Welfare League has signalled it will be making changes with the appointment of a new general manager.

Wellington-based Awhimai Reynolds, of Tainui descent, has taken up the role. She was previously the Maori Health Manager - Te Whaioranga at Government drug buying agency Pharmac.

Ms Reynolds and the league's national president Kataraina O'Brien both say they are looking to refresh the organisation and give it a contemporary look and feel to appeal to younger women.

Ms Reynolds says any changes would be made without compromising the league's core principles.

The job of general manager was previously held by Jacqui Te Kani, who died in October last year.
