MWWL considers becoming Whanau Ora provider

A new Maori Women's Welfare League executive is considering an idea raised by one of its life members regarding the social welfare policy Whanau Ora.

The idea came from a lifetime member of the league, Dame Iritana Tawhiwhirangi.

Some of its branches already supply Whanau Ora services, but the national body has never applied to become a provider.

In 2011 the organisation said it didn't fit the programme's criteria.

However, the new general manager of the organisation, Awhimai Reynolds, says the league has been delivering services similar to Whanau Ora for more than 60 years.
