Turbulent time for Maori Affairs Committee

8:38 pm on 13 May 2013

The Maori Affairs Committee says it's been a "heck of a couple of weeks" after the death of its deputy chair and the anticipated resignation of another member.

National Party MP and committee member, Aaron Gilmore, is to quit following criticism of his conduct at a Hanmer Springs hotel.

The committee's deputy chair, Labour MP Parekura Horomia, died last month.

Select committee chairperson Tau Henare says it's been a tough fortnight with the death of Mr Horomia, who had a wealth of knowledge, and now the resignation of Mr Gilmore.

He says Mr Gilmore comes from an accountancy background, which was beneficial for the committee, and it will be sad to see him go.

Mr Henare says he is looking forward to having a full quota again.
