Maori TV asked to report on success

8:35 pm on 28 May 2013

MPs have asked Maori Television to find a way to measure its success.

Most mainstream broadcasters check their performance against viewer numbers.

The channel's audience figures - compared to the commercial stations - are low.

However, politicians acknowledge that Maori Television is unique, with one of its aims to support Te Reo and tikanga Maori.

At the same time though, the Maori Affairs Select Committee is asking the broadcaster to explore methods of reporting its success.

It's requested a response in a year's time.
