The Ministry of Health is seeking an organisation that is willing to train and improve the governance of Iwi Relationship Boards, which work with district health boards.
Each board has a Memorandum of Understanding with its own Iwi Relationship Board (IRB), whose role is to ensure Maori are represented and participate in DHB decision-making.
They are made up of representatives of whanau, hapu, iwi and Maori communities in their district.
Maori participation manager Eugene Rewi said the ministry is looking to improve the governance structures of IRBs to support them in their role with district health boards, to improve the health of Maori.
He said a pilot programme is expected to be rolled out to DHBs in the Midlands region between September and December this year.
