Tamihere hints at political comeback

6:54 am on 3 September 2013

Former Labour MP John Tamihere is undecided on his own political future but says he could become more involved if Shane Jones becomes the Labour Party leader.

Mr Jones is the only Maori contender for the role and is up against Grant Robertson and David Cunliffe.

The MP says Labour needs to broaden its appeal if it is to win next year's election and bring in more voters, and describes himself as the man for that job.

Mr Tamihere, a former Labour government minister, remains a member of the Labour Party and says that's a motivating statement.

He stopped short of saying he will make a political comeback but says his involvement will increase if Mr Jones wins the leadership.
