Spectrum auction a missed chance for Crown - Maori

6:46 am on 26 November 2013

A Maori claimant to the 4G spectrum says the Crown has missed an opportunity to move forward with Maori.

The remaining portion of the 700 megahertz band will be auctioned off on Tuesday.

The Government has ignored Waitangi Tribunal recommendation to allocate to Maori a portion of spectrum, which is considered a taonga.

Maori Spectrum Coalition member Antony Royal says the sell-off was an opportunity for the Government to begin discussions with Maori, and resolve the issue.

He says the Tribunal's findings are not going to go away.
