It has emerged no mainstream schools are supporting a new kaupapa Maori Charter kura in Whangarei.
Te Kura Hourua O Whangarei Terenga Paraoa has said it has an agreement with Whangarei Boys High to help deliver some subjects.
But Whangarei Boys High Board of Trustees chair Tim Robinson says a decision on whether to offer support is still to be decided.
There is a risk a teachers' union could legally challenge any agreement and take direct action, he says.
The Post Primary Teachers' Association is publicly opposed to charter schools.
The board will make a decision on support for Te Kura Hourua O Whangarei Terenga Paraoa at the end of this month.
