Second Maori-Indian hui in Rotorua

7:50 pm on 12 February 2014

Maori-Indians struggling to be accepted by their own community will attend the second Maori-Indian hui in Rotorua next month to discuss the challenges of dual ethnicity.

A spokeswoman for the hui, Natasha Narayan, says most participants battle to feel accepted in their own community.

She says the first hui was prompted by a Maori-Indian woman who felt 'too Maori' to join an Indian sports team.

Ms Narayan says most participants have experienced racial discrimination and the aim of the hui is to generate solutions.
