Labour's Tamaki Makaurau electoral nominee Will Flavell predicts the Maori Party will lose the electorate at the upcoming election because it mainly serves kaumatua, not rangatahi.

The current MP for the electorate, Pita Sharples, is adamant his party's candidate for the seat, Rangi McLean, has what it takes to win back the seat.
But school teacher and Henderson Massey Local Board member, Will Flavell, disagrees. He's confident Labour will win the seat, no matter who it chooses as its electoral candidate.
Mr Flavell believes the Maori Party will not retain the seat. He said he was shocked the Maori Party selected Mr McLean as its candidate because he said it continued the kaumatua theme.
Mr Flavell said as a 28-year-old he reflected the dreams and aspirations of rangatahi Maori and listened to their concerns.
He said it was that vote from young Maori that would win the election. Mr Flavell said he believed it was time for young people to have a voice alongside kaumatua.
The general election will be held on 20 September.
