Iwi entities, including its tribal parliment Te Kauhanganui, are being reviewed by a sponsor group co-chaired by Nanaia Mahuta and Sir Henry van der Heyden. The review began in February 2013.

Governance and representation ideas will be discussed by iwi members at a series of wananga, or workshops.

Ms Mahuta said it wants to make sure its organisations, including its commercial arm, are working towards the same objectives of working efficiently and benefiting the lives of tribal members.

Ms Mahuta said the group hopes to hold a vote on governance options by September or October this year, with the intention of holding a new election process for governance entities in February 2015.

The next wananga is being held at Nga Tai E Rua Marae in Tuakau on Saturday.
