Iwi wants feedback on new tribal entity

The Wairarapa branch of Ngati Kahungunu iwi is seeking feedback from iwi members about a new tribal entity.

Ngati Kahungunu ki Wairarapa-Tamaki Nui a Rua negotiators are talking with the Crown to settle the iwi's claims regarding historical breaches of the Treaty of Waitangi.

While the negotiations take place a post-settlement governance entity needs to be set up to receive and manage assets returned to the tribe, and to represent the iwi in any post-settlement relationship redress.

Ngati Kahungunu ki Wairarapa-Tamaki Nui a Rua would like to hear from any iwi member about what they think the new organisation should look like.

Consultation hui are happening over the next three weeks in Dannevirke, Wellington, Auckland, Mangakino, Christchurch and Masterton.

The first meeting in Dannevirke is happening on Saturday 30 August.
