Around 100 Māori farmers and land trustees are expected to attend the event on Saturday, hosted in conjunction with the Federation of Māori Authorities.

The day will focus on specific issues relating to Māori farming as well as industry developments and training around things such as sustainability and worker safety.

DairyNZ brand marketing manager Andrew Fraser said tāngata whenua made up a significant part of the industry.

"Māori farming is becoming bigger as there are more farms being converted and getting into it so we're just wanting to grow the connection and the support that we give Māori farming through this."

Mr Fraser said Māori have a unique long-term view on their farming and have the additional challenge of multiple ownership.

He said there were opportunities for Māori farming to improve and there was a lot of support for them to do so.
