Tāmaki fights on to lead Women's Welfare League

8:02 pm on 5 July 2011

The wife of the Bishop of Destiny Church has been left off the voting list for the presidency of the Māori Women's Welfare League but her spokesperson says she will continue the fight for the top job.

Amiria Pūpuke has confirmed Hannah Tāmaki is out of the race because her name has not been included in voting material for the role.

Mrs Tāmaki, the wife of Brian Tāmaki, was nominated for presidency by three of the league's branches set up by the Destiny Church in Auckland.

Senior members of the welfare organisation are opposed to her becoming president.

Ms Pūpuke says Mrs Tāmaki does not know why she has been disqualified and will continue her campaign for the role.

Mrs Tāmaki will meet with members of the league in Hamilton on Tuesday night.

The Māori Women's Welfare League has not returned calls to Radio New Zealand.
