Māori element wanted in mainstream tourism

Māori Tourism is working to add the Māori experience to mainstream tourism as one of its top priorities.

The Government has given the agency $4.5 million over three years to spend on the sector and ultimately bring more visitors to New Zealand.

Chairman Glen Katu says history and depth can be added to visitors' experience of New Zealand.

While the landscapes are great to look at, ski on and climb, he says guides could tell visitors about the ancestry of the landscape.
