Horomia considering political future

8:31 pm on 6 July 2011

Labour Party MP Parekura Horomia is to announce next week whether or not he will stand again in his eastern Māori seat.

The 61-year-old former Māori Affairs Minister says he has been considering his future as a politician in Ikaroa-Rāwhiti and talking with his immediate whānau.

In the 2008 election, Mr Horomia defeated nearest rival Māori Party candidate Derek Fox, securing a majority of 1645 votes.

The Māori Party's candidate for the election on 26 November is Nā Raihānia, a Department of Corrections officer.
