Commission hopes for continued Te Reo funding

9:04 am on 21 July 2011

The Māori Language Commission hopes the Government will continue to fund Te Reo development programmes for communities.

Individuals or groups wanting to develop the language have in the past 10 years been able to apply for Mā te Reo funding.

Each year, $1.8 million has been offered and the Government has decided to provide a further round this year.

Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori chief executive Glenis Philip-Barbara says on average it receives about 700 applications per year.

She expects to announce in about a month's time when this year's round of funding will be available.
